Culainn
were formed in 1998 by John Bilek, the brother of
Mike
Harding and
former member of Toss
The Feathers and
Rattle'n'Reel.
Joined
by a host of award-winning talented Irish Mancunian musicians,
Culainn are set to join Toss
The Feathers
as a
highly celebrated Manc Irish export, fusing rock with traditional
and even soul with didgeridoo.
Fiddle
player Paul Farrell comes from a famous Irish Mancunian musical
family, bass guitarist Nick Haynes also plays a brilliant didgeridoo,
and drummer, Martin Clooney (also ex-Toss
The Feathers and
Rattle'n'Reel)
has
supported Bob Dylan, The Pogues and The Saw Doctors. Electric
guitarist, Dave Thom, has also enjoyed success with Gone
To Earth and
Harvey's
Rabbit,
whose
1998 singles "Is This What You Call Change" and "Happy
Town" received heavy national radio airplay.
Culainn's
1999 "The Prodigal EP" was the band's first collaboration
of their talented backgrounds and its mix of traditional celtic
music with anthemic rock and didgeridoo provided a unique sound
that tragically went commercially undiscovered.
Flutist
Sean Maguire was replaced in 1999 by Quinny who had been a close
friend of the band from the beginning.
